Saqtiel Orozco-Pedroza is a New York City–based flutist whose work reflects a deep commitment to collaboration, versatility, and contemporary musical expression. Equally at home on the orchestral stage, in chamber settings, and as a soloist, he is an active advocate for new and cross-genre repertoire.
In 2026, Saqtiel was named runner-up in the New York University Concerto Competition, a distinction that reflects his growing presence as a compelling performer. He has appeared with ensembles including the New York University Orchestra and the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra and is a founding member of a chamber trio for two flutes and piano with Iman Williams and Seiha Park, through which he continues to explore innovative chamber programming.
His artistic path has been shaped by both competition success and international study. After winning first place in the 2020 San Diego Flute Guild Orchestral Excerpt Competition, Saqtiel pursued further artistic development, taking up a short residency in Mondovì, Italy, where he studied with renowned flutists Marina Piccinini, Adriana Ferreira, and Peter Verhoyen.
A dedicated collaborator, Saqtiel works closely with composers and arrangers to expand the flute repertoire. His projects include commissioned works for solo flute and strings, such as Rhonda Larson’s “Be Still My Soul,” as well as a reimagined arrangement of Bizet’s Carmen for solo flute and string quartet. He has also collaborated with New York City–based producer Ethan Crowley on recording projects that explore new sonic possibilities for the instrument.
As an educator, Saqtiel has contributed to band programs across Southern California, including East Whittier Middle School, Elsinore Middle School, Elsinore High School, and Temescal Canyon High School, fostering young musicians at various stages of development.
He has performed under the direction of conductors such as Johannes Müller Stosch, Dr. John Alan Carnahan, and Jonathan Haas, and has participated in master classes with leading artists including Julien Beaudiment, Ian Clarke, Jennifer Grim, Rena Urso, Steve Kujala, and Marina Piccinini.
Saqtiel holds a Bachelor of Music from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music and is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Flute Performance at New York University. His principal teachers include Dr. Meghann Bennett, Dr. John Barcellona, Darin Thaves, Rena Urso, and Cindy Broz.
He performs on a handmade platinum-clad Muramatsu flute.
